Education Outreach Program education outreach

CCBS has designed education outreach programs as a way of introducing the art of dance to young people in the community and affording economically challenged children the opportunity to experience the richness that the arts bring to their lives. In the past few years we have introduced over 2,000 elementary school students in Springfield, Clark County, Ohio, to the beauty of dance.

In-School Performances

CCBS presents a “Young Dancer Showcase” 2-3 times per year at local elementary schools to make the dance arts accessible to young audiences. The Showcase is modified to fit within a 1-hour time period. Study guides and activity sheets enhance students’ learning and appreciation of classical ballet and contemporary dance forms.

A Chance to Dance

CCBS offers programs for underprivileged children ages 8-10, which gives them the opportunity to attend dance classes. Through the discipline of dance, students have built their self-esteem and confidence. Further, attitudes have become positive, and they have learned to work as a team. Auditions for the 12-week program are held in November. This scholarship program is made possible through grants and private donations.

Girl Scouts Brownie Dance Badge Workshop

Discover the fascinating world of dance with Columbus City Ballet School’s pre-professional training company. One hour before the performance, you can attend a mini-workshop in the rehearsal room. This will include basic dance technique and movement. Tickets reduced to $10 per person.

Family Fanfare

This program is devoted to very young children ages 3-5. A $40 membership is required. The children will participate in four events per year to help keep their enthusiasm for dance and allow them to share the experience with family and friends. Schedule:

  • Fairy Tale Story and Movement Workshop, Saturday, October 20, 2007, 2-3pm
  • The Nutcracker Movement Workshop, Saturday, November 10, 2007, 2-3pm
  • Backstage Tour, Saturday, December 15, 2007, 1-2pm
